Summer Barbeque

Coffee Barbecue Sauce Recipe

1/2 cup brewed espresso or strong, dark
coffee
1 cup
ketchup

1/2 cup
cider vinegar

1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 onion, peeled and finely chopped, about 1 cup
2 cloves
garlic
, peeled and crushed
3 fresh hot chili peppers, such as jalapeno, or hotter if desired, seeded
2 tablespoons hot
dry mustard
mixed with 1 tablespoon warm water
2 tablespoons
Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons ground cumin
2 tablespoons chili powder

Put all of the ingredients in a small pot, stir them together, and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Lower the heat so the mixture is just simmering and let simmer for 20 minutes. Remove the pot form the heat, let the mixture cool, then puree it in a blender or food processor fitted with the steel blade.

The barbecue sauce can be covered and refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

For my friend, Lacy at Razor Family Farms!

UPDATE: This sauce is good for anytime you would use a traditional tomato based bbq sauce. Ribs, chops, chicken, dunk a nuggect, etc.

Happy Birthday to ME!

As some of you know.... or maybe not... I am kinda into coffee. I love coffee. I like it hot. I like it cold. I like it with milk. I like it black. I like it in cookies and brownies. I like it in BBQ sauce! I am just a little kookie about coffee! You nearly always see me with coffee of some kind in my hand. So.... I searched and searched and searched for a coffee I could call my own. I found a fantastic roaster in Georgia! They do wonderful coffee. I have never had a complaint about the coffee! But anyway, I found a roaster. They agreed to use my private label. Woo Hoo! I built a website. My company is almost one year old! I can't believe it. I would love my friends to check it out and give me some feed back. What can I do to make it better?
In addition to coffees, I have espresso makers, coffee grinders, coffee cups, recipes, links, info, quotes... just look me over. If you have a coffee quote that I have not found and would like to suggest it let me know! Have a coffee recipe not included in my recipe pages. Send it here, I would love to include it, give you credit and a link!
I have an add url page. Use the form. I will add any tasteful family links.
Help me celebrate my birthday by making my site more better!
If you are a coffee bean and want to order some ...
woo hoo... won't say NO!
Thank you to my friends!

Coffee a Poem

Trees like a green sea
White flowers like fields of clouds

Luscious red berries like red polka dots

Seeds dark and fragrant like an exotic trade wind

A brew, dark and steamy like a romantic evening

Coffee is like heaven

Spring Spring Spring

It has been raining for over a week... almost everyday! Here, in NC, we really need it. Our lakes and aquifers are slowly filling. Maybe our drought status will be reduced. Flowers are blooming. Ferns are peeking up. Azaleas are blooming. Here are a few pictures around our homestead .... Grab a cup of coffee & ENJOY!

Earth Day Fast Approaching....

I am offering a 100% cotton tote for earth day. $19.99 plus s&h. Click here for link.

Time.... MY.... How it FLIES......

Well, It certainly has been a minute since I posted. I don't know why. Sometimes life just blows by in a hurry. I really would hate to say how many cups of coffee I have put down over the last month.... Let's just say the worms are getting fat from all the coffee grounds. (let me explain) I have 3 great loves in my life. Not nessasarily in this order. COFFEE (no duh), My Kids and Family(btw, Kyle, my baby, graduated Basic Training last week! He has another 5 weeks of military training, then he will be home!) Last -- but never least -- is my Sweetie and Companion! He is retired, but tries to keep busy. He tends an organic garden for us (yummy stuff)! He cultivates and sells ferns. He grows worms. Worms make excellent compost for the organic garden! Worms LOVE coffee grounds! So his passions and mine meet well.

The Last Adventure At HOMESTEAD CREATIONS....

Aquaponics!

What, you ask, is aquaponics? It is a closed biosystem, where plants and and fish are cultivated at the same time. We are in the process of building our first system. OH MY! What a task. If you would like to really check out aquaponics... the Aussies really have it down. http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/

Needless to say this is not or one or two hour process. This is days ... weeks even. First the concept, then research, then research the research (where is my spreadsheet---Yes dear you are my sweetie!) Then the SHOPPING ..... new green house cover.... barrels- yes 9 scrounged and bought as of today. Rocks (peagravel) bought and transported.... they are heavy. (now to wash them) Well, today is trying to plumb the project.

Fish live in water. The plants use the nutrient gifts the fish leave in the water. Then the water returns to the fish all clean to do it all again.... in the end... nice fresh vegies and nice fresh fish....

Can't wait!

Well the Coffee Cup is nearly empty. I have rambled quite enough for one day!

Drink it hot!

Drink it fresh!

PS.... Does anyone know where to get a small amount of tilapia fingerlings in the US??????

Children and Coffee

Good Morning! Here I am (yes, with my cup of coffee), thinking about my kids. My 2nd child, oldest son, turned 25 this week. This has been somewhat tramatic for me. I now have 2 children over the quarter century mark. OH MY! I am feeling extremely aged. He is in grad school in Florida. I really missed being able to celebrate with him. My oldest, my baby girl, and her family are finally (I think and hope) going to move near me this summer. I am so excited (they have teased me with this idea before--this time seems different!) And then, my baby, my youngest son, is off to boot camp in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. I got in trouble for sending him contraband! He wrote and asked me to send chapstick. I did. I just added some KitKat bars..... big MISTAKE! I thought I was being a good mom! Oh, well. I guess the drill sargents enjoyed the candy. Time to go fill the coffee cup!

Reflections

Well, here I am sittiting with my perpetual cup of coffee, reflecting on the past few weeks. January is nearly over. November and December were very long hectic months. Not just for the holidays.....they just added to it. My kids were here twice in two months....It had been probably 6 years since I had them all in one place (and boy was my place a small place to stuff all those people into!). Since I work in a retail environment, that added to the bustle. But the after the holidays crunch is finally to an end. I actually had time to sit and tweak the website a bit. I am in the process of adding coffee recipes. That has been fun. Tried them all. Created a few originals. Now just getting them in the system-very time consuming. My weekend is over. Time to get ready for the brick and mortar world once again. If you are reading this, here is some advice we hear all the time, but rarely take.

  • Take a few minutes for yourself each and every day

  • Do something kind for someone daily

  • Develop an interest (outside of work and family)

  • Tell your significant other how important they are to you

Have a fantastic day!

Bon Fires and Family

The holidays have come to an end. As always it is a bittersweet conclusion. My children have packed up and gone back to their lives.... being full time working parents --far away, being a full time grad student -- again far away, and off to basic training --so very far away. I tend to ponder (with my cup of coffee nearby) quite often about my children and grandchildren, about their lives and the choices they have made. I see my daughter trying to balance being a wife, mother and working professional and wish that I was closer so that I could ease that burden, but as I look from far away, I realize that I have given her the skills to successfully manage these roles. She is doing an admirable job. I see my son struggling to find his path in life, then I realize we all have to find our paths in our own time. He focuses on his studies, wants to make the world a better, greener, more sustainable place to live for all peoples. My baby, rudely thrust into manhood by his father's premature passing, trying to be like his dad, do what his dad did- make the world a safer place. Soldiers have a big burden, I am proud that my son is willing to take on this burden - for his family, his home, his country. So, I sit ( with that perpetual cup of coffee), and smile. I look forward to the gathering of my children and the Christmas Eve Bon Fires of the future.

Another New Year!

The years just keep rolling by. Things I regret are not spending more time with family and friends. As I sit back listening to the roar of the waterfall rushing, I take a sip of my coffee and think that this is the year I put my priorities straight. I WILL take more time to watch my grandchildren grow up. I WILL call my mom more often. I WILL go to lunch with my friends and listen to them. I WILL let my sweetie know how important he is to me. I WILL pay attention to the details of my childrens' lives. Happy New Year to all!

What Do People Actually Look For

I sit here at the keyboard. I ponder.... what do people look for on other peoples blogs. I initially thought it was to gather information. I don't know. I really don't find a whole lot of quality information on the blogs I stumble into. There have been people who visited my blog and actually went to my store and actually purchased something. So maybe I helped someone - who knows - Do you have an opinion? If you read this, leave me a comment. I would love some feedback. I would like to contribute something worthwhile. Thanks for reading.

Social Networking

I have tried the social networking game. It is all about the individual. The only sales I have generated are mostly the "shopping groups" who HAVE to buy something from somebody. The funny thing is that most people use my product daily. I work with a premium supplier. When you try my version of this product, you won't want the standard everyday version. I have several repeat customers. That speaks volumes about my quality product. But I will keep on networking.

I am all about coffee!

WOW! I have been trying to sign up with a site called payperpost. They want bloggers who actually say something. I want to find a way to support my self on the computer. I can write about other peoples products. Give my opinions. Lots of stuff. I just find it hard to write about me. I love coffee. So I started my own company. I am not getting rich yet. But it pays for itself. I enjoy it so that is all that counts. I have tried getting some other products/companies going with it. But so far no go. I tried the survey game. But they want you to fill out all of these "offers". Most of these offers involve MY money in some way so.... Oh well... Payperpost--I am trying!
